I like David Brooks a lot and he talks about aspects of privacy, I like many others, have neglected to really consider and appreciate. Did you listen to the recent two part This American Life "Cops See It Differently"? I don't know, I haven't thought about the stories it tells with respect to privacy, but it does an excellent job of exposing how complicated these recent police issues have been.
