Site Review

CAPEweb:

I'm usually unfamiliar with websites, and can't go deep into discussing them because I usually don't browse many sites, BUT! there's some things I can say about CAPE since I've been a longer period of time on this site. Personally, I had a difficult time maneuvering around the website, and finding things I was trying to look for. I think when I looked at sites for the class, I was looking more towards aesthetics rather than purpose and accessibility because I simply browsed rather than searched for specific things. With the CAPE website, I noticed that there are a lot of things I can click on, which made I thought maybe was too much.

I like the four: "What We Do" "What We Know" "Who We Are" and "Connect With Us" links because I thought it was simple, and an easy way to understand CAPE. However, with the "Research" portion, there were so many links that led to outside sources and pdfs, that I got overwhelmed.

Museum fact

I think this is a good way to realize how many museums there are, since there's a LOT of Starbucks and McDonalds around.. Also, I think the more I think about it, the more overwhelmed I get by the number of museums (and the fact that we this is surprising).

When The Art Is Watching You

This was something a classmate shared during another class, but I thought it pertained to some of things we were talking about as a class!

Site review

Hive Chicago --

Overall, I liked the design of the website. It seemed simple enough to follow through, and mimicked a lot of the websites we've been looking at. The menu bar is the typical drop-down menu, but something I really liked is that once you click the menu bar, the sub-menu categories permanently show up on the right corner. Another thing I liked about the site was the "Portfolio" page. I liked how when you filter through, it highlights the specified links while keeping the other ones as ghosts.
There were some parts that are repetitive (ex: repeated goals+missions on main "Hive Chicago" page and "Hive Chicago Goal" page). In addition, I was hoping to be directed to other pages when clicking on the orange-linked "Partner Organizations (http://hivechicago.org/portfolio/hive-youth-council/), but it seemed to just refresh the page.. Maybe it's just me?

Stockyard --

(Images took a while loading). In the beginning, I really enjoyed the simplicity of the "Missions" page, but then I was hoping to see how this is met through what they do. A part of me feels like the "About" page and the main page somewhat describe it, but I felt like a clear explanation of the "how" would've been good to see. I think the menu bar's categories seem to all fall under "About" and that the main aspect of the page is the first page. I wish there was an archive list of categories to be able to filter throughout the main page, though.

Museum Two --

Nina Simon's "What Is Museum 2.0?" page (http://museumtwo.blogspot.com/2006/12/what-is-museum-20.html) really helped better explain what the website is. I skimmed through a lot of the titles and keywords, which helped guide what ideas framed the site. (I really enjoyed some of her titles and examples). I also liked how she included a section of blogs/bloggers that she views.
